About us

Welcome

Welcome to the Sharing Voices website and thank you for your interest in our work. We are committed to working with BME communities and service providers to improve services and promote mental health well being for people living with mental distress. We look forward to working with you to achieve our aims and objectives.

About

Sharing Voices Bradford (SVB) is a community development mental health organisation actively supporting and working with diverse minority communities of Bradford.

Sharing Voices Bradford was established on the basis that an individual’s mental health experiences often arise from issues around: poverty, racism, unemployment, loneliness, family conflicts, relationship difficulties, and other socio-economic and personal factors that cannot be merely understood through biological terms alone.  Understanding where an individual is, on their journey of recovery, listening to peoples own explanation and helping find solutions based on their needs, is a key part of our work.

Objectives

Our aims and objectives include addressing inequality and disadvantage in health and social care. Our approaches to address these include:

Development and employment of community development methods and approaches for working with diverse BME communities.

Enabling the inclusion of BME culture/faith/language and spiritually perspectives within the delivery of mental health services.

Promoting BME ‘Voice’ and influence in service planning and design,Enabling ‘choice’ in the access of support and more meaningful networks.

Advocating non-stigmatizing / less oppressive approaches to distress.

Informing service development and delivery.

Working directly with individuals and communities to address issues of inequality in mental health provision, Raise awareness of mental health and well being within BME communities.
